Poverty is a serious issue which plagues a larger number of Canadians. From an economic stand point, poverty costs Canada a significant amount of money due to the services offered for those living in poverty and the economic potential lost.
While poverty is not a glamorous issue, it is something that needs to be addressed. Poverty comes down to people not being able to afford the basic necessities. We should aim to decrease the cost of everyday necessities and making housing affordable. This will be achieved by opening up markets and reducing unnecessary restrictions that drive up prices.
I would suggest we assess how effective poverty programs and services are and modify these accordingly to ensure those living in poverty are taken care of. I would also help promote building low income housing.
