MILITARY

BURDEN

ARCTIC SOVEREIGNTY

Due to Canada's geographic characteristics and the fact that the majority of the Canadian population resides in the Southern region of Canada, military response time is something that becomes a concern regarding patrolling the Arctic Region. In addition, the Canadian Navy lacks the kind of ice breaker ships necessary for patrolling the Arctic. Without a sufficient military presence in the Arctic Circle, Canada's claim to arctic sovereignty will be difficult to uphold. For this reason, the Canadian military requires additional funding and specializing craft for the Arctic region.
